Happy 6th month birthday Hannah!!!


Hannah has been growing wonderfully. She is actually fitting in her 6 month clothes and is progressing better than the doctors had expected. Her vision teacher from TARC came over today and she has been amazed at the ability of Hannah's vision since day one. Hannah doesn't show any signs of having any vision problems. When an object is placed in front of her she will see it, reach for it and grab it. Yesterday was Hannah's first day going to church and someone that was watching Hannah approached Sam and the conversation went something like this:


Guy: Well, we haven't heard anything new about Hannah. How is she and how is she doing. I mean, I'm not a doctor or anything like that and it looks like she can hear and it looks like she can definitely see...


Sam: (laughter)...Yeah that's what they told us at the very beginning, but she can see and hear.

Hannah just past another great milestone. She rolled over today (3/10/2010)! I know most parents think it is a big day when their child rolls over for the first time, but I will argue that this was a much bigger accomplishment for Hannah in our eyes. When she was 7 weeks old she had a CT scan done on her head after she was having siezure like symptoms (they didn't happen to be siezures) and the doctors were able to compare it with her CT scan when she was only a couple of days old. She had been born with a normal size brain and they told us then that she wasn't going to have the Retardation of development from the CHARGE acronym. Well, at 7 weeks they said her brain hadn't grown much and they prepared us for the worse (doctors are good at preparing for the worst). This particular doctor has a nephew that has developmental problem and he said that his nephew didn't show any signs of retardation until he didn't roll over at 6 months and from then on things became more pronounced in his nephew. So he informed us that she may miss some of her mile stones and have brain capacity issues. Well, today on exactly her six month birthday she rolled over!!! And you know what, she hasn't missed any of her mile stones yet, she can see, she can hear, and she is growing wonderfully. She is surpassing all expectations that the doctors had given her. You go girl!

Unfortunately everything can't go as planned with Hannah. This past week Hannah started to throw up her feeds again. It was sad because when Hannah gets set back it takes her a while to get going again. So we made an important and hard decision, we were going to try and force her to bottle feed. Yes, we were going starved our little girl. It was extremly difficult for us, but this is the only way that we can help Hannah get rid of her Mic-Key button and help her to start eating like a typical child. We decided this after her 9am feed so from then on we only offered her the bottle. At first she didn't want any part of it, but then by 7pm she decided that she would eat some. She took an ounce and didn't even spill a drop out of the side of her mouth. This was enough to help calm herself down, but it wasn't nearly enough for her body to grow. 2 hours later she took the bottle again and the entire time that she was eating she would be sucking on the bottle, but also complaining about how she didn't like to eat from the bottle. It was kind of cute. She took another ounce agian at 1am. Everytime after she took about an ounce or less she started to get too tired and couldnt breath and eat at the same time. By this time my heart was being torn apart because several times throughout this process she would be crying because she was hungry. It hurt me to watch my daughter be so hungry and she couldn't do anything about it. By 3am I started to give her the normal feeds of 4 ounces.

So we tried. Our emotions got the better of us and we started to feed our child again. Until next time she will be a content little girl and get more than enough food :)

Thank you to everyone that have prayed and are still praying for Hannah. She has overcome so much and we know it is because that our Heavenly Father has blessed her through your prayers and the blessings that she has received. Hannah has been a great blessing in our family and we are extremely excited to watch her grow and develop into a beautiful little child.

Moving on...

We have some exciting news in the Teed family, but first let me tell you about all of our happenings from the last few weeks.

Ricky has been enjoying work and goes to basketball in the mornings. He loves to play with the kids when he gets home from work. He does a great job with his church calling as a ward missionary and has this new thing with reading LOTS of books on real estate.

I have been enjoying jazzercise. I try and go every night when Rick gets home from work. I just started a competition called jazz it off. It will run for 12 weeks and for that 12 weeks I will be working hard to be the jazz it offs biggest loser. So far I have lost 8 lbs! Today I woke up with my neck out of place.. OUCH! I have been out of commission for the day and thanks to my wonderful husband I have been able to rest my neck. I hope it gets better soon, I feel so useless!

Caleb is such a big boy! We are working on potty training...meaning he does it when he feels like it :) He likes to read a book while sitting on the big boy toilet. So cute! He loves Hannah and helps so much. He likes going to Barnes and Nobel to play with the train set in the kids section. I don't mind, it gives me time to read. As of lately he jumps on and off of everything, he likes to run around in nothing other than his diaper, I have given up on putting clothes on this little monkey, he no longer takes naps, and he now has a new favorite TV show... Diego, he watches it several times a day.

Hannah is growing and getting stronger everyday. She is 12 lbs and is officially in her 3-6 month clothes. She can roll from her back to her side and is so close to rolling onto her tummy. Hannah loves music and playing with her toys! We are still working on her upper body strength and will be sitting up any day now. We are still working on her feeds by mouth... I have a feeling this is going to be slow but steady improvement. She took 20cc's by bottle the other day. YAY Hannah!

Now for our family news... We are moving! Yes that's right moving! Moving where one might ask...? Well we are moving into our very own home! We are first time homeowners as of last week. We close on Mach 26th and will move in that weekend. It is all newly remodeled.... we are nervous and excited.... this was the last straw of actually being all grown up! I will have Ricky post pictures sometime soon :) Enjoy the pictures of the kids... they are the cutest!

My sweets....

Hannah is doing so good! Her vision teacher was tickled pink with how well she is doing. She had her 4 month check up and the results are:
Weight: 11lbs 3% ( shes on the chart)
Height: 23 inches 25%
Head: unknown but 25%

The only thing we are working on is holding her head up... due to being in the hospital for so long and then recovery time for her heart she was not able to due tummy time. She is getting better every day and before we know she will be crawling!

She has her mick-ey button now and this allows her to play on her tummy. She likes her play mat and her bumbo. She is such a happy go lucky girl and her smiles and giggles bring warmth to my heart! She is our little miracle.

She is working on her feeds. Our new goal is to hopefully have her eating all her food by mouth in time to eat her birthday cake :)

We do physical therapy daily. She loves it.... no, not really but she needs it so we try and make it as fun as possible.


Caleb is such a cute boy! I love him! He has such an active imagination. He is so fun to play with. Some fun things about Caleb:

Christmas

Hope all had a very Merry Christmas! We did... we even ended up with a white Christmas! Ricky and I had fun playing Santa and seeing how excited Caleb got...2 is a fun age!

Thanksgiving & Christmas Prep.

What an eventful month! It has been a while since my last blog and I do apologize to all that follow. I must say though that it sure is nice to be busy caring for my kids and of course no news is good news :)

We have spent the last month enjoying the holidays as a family. We spent Thanksgiving at home in our Pj's and it was so much fun! Ricky grilled our turkey while I cooked the rest of our food.

We made a turkey, an Indian hat, reindeer, a Santa Clause, snowflakes, a ginger bread house, 12 loaves of cherry bread, a center piece for my table, put up our Christmas decorations, went to Ricky's work Christmas party, Drs. appointments, family pictures, and the best part of all we played in the snow!

Updates....

Hannah: She passed her swallow study test! We get to feed her by mouth. This is a slow process but it is one step closer getting the gtube out! She has finally reached the 10lb. mark, she sticks her tongue out, she plays with her hands, she can hold her head up, and she reaches for her toys! She is doing so good right now... she is our little angel. Hannah now has a more expensive piece of jewelry than I will ever own in my lifetime... she got her baha (like a hearing aid). This will help her localize noise. We are excited for this sweet girl..she is doing so many great things and is truly a blessing to our family!

Caleb: He is getting so big! He loves his sister and is a great helper. He is into trains, Dumbo, reading books, playing in the snow, and his most favorite thing to do at the moment is to help us cook. Caleb has such a strong spirit and is an amazing boy! We sure do love our sweet boy!

Ricky: plays basketball in the mornings, he has been busy with work and really does enjoy his job, reading his new book, plays with the kids at night so I can have some me time, and his new hobby.... making apple pie from scratch! What a stud!

Me: I haven't really done a lot of new and exciting things. I have been busy being mom and getting us used to our new normal. I love being able to stay at home! Over the past few months we have gone back to KC a few times and I have met some amazing women. I have learned a lot from having Hannah. There are so many families out there (some that our more heroic than I could ever explain) that are in a similar situation or worse situation. You can tell that these families are tired by looking at them but at the same time you can see the love and hope in their eyes they have for their child. I have also seen the opposite where families crumble under the stress and loss of the dreams they once had. This makes me grateful for the Atonement of Christ, my supportive husband who sees the good in all, our family and friends who help lift us up in our hard times, and all the resources we have been blessed with to help our sweet girl. I feel so blessed and am overwhelmed with the love and peace I have felt these past 3 months and continue to feel.

Blessings

The last 2 weeks have been great! The first week we were home my mom came to visit and help me out with the kids. I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed my time with her :) Rick's parents came for a visit as well and we always enjoy their company!

Hannah is 11 weeks old and has finally reached the 9lbs mark. We are excited for this. She is growing and getting stronger every day. She spends a lot of time sleeping but in her awake time she coos at us, smiles, and giggles. The vision teacher stopped by to evaluate her and she was impressed with Hannah. She said that it seems Hannah is using her vision. Coloboma is a gap in the eye... it is our job to help Hannah focus and learn to look around the gap in her vision. She is doing so good! She will get her baha in December and this will allow her to hear out of her left ear and better localize sounds. She had her cardio check up on Monday and the doctor is satisfied with her progress. Hannah has some underlying problems and we will know more about those in January when she goes in for another heart cath. Dr. Swanson is going to let Hannah out grow her meds and we will see how she does after that.

Caleb is doing great and is such a sweet boy! He loves his sister and loves helping mommy and daddy. He is growing so much and no longer looks like a toddler but a boy. When did this happen? I must have blinked.

Ricky is great! He is back to work and enjoying that. He is such an amazing man. He is always willing to help me and never complains. he loves the kids and Hannah does indeed have him wrapped around her finger. When he comes home the first thing he does is play with Caleb and give both kids loves! He always asks me if there is anything I need and that if I want to go out and have alone time that I should go and he will take care of the kids. He truly is an example of selflessness. We just celebrated 4 years of marriage last weekend. I am so grateful for Ricky and look forward to an eternity with him!

I am doing good. I have a cold right now but other than that I can't complain. Life is good. I am a blessed woman. I am thankful for so many things but the first thing a am thankful for is a loving Heavenly Father who loves me and knows of my individual needs. He uplifts me in my times of need and all the blessings I have are because of Him. I have a different perspective on the atonement of Christ and I am grateful for His sacrifice so that we some day could all return to live with our Father in Heaven and return to a perfect state of being, bodies and all.

I am grateful for the nursing care we receive in the home so that I can get my errands done and spend time with Caleb. I am grateful for family and friends and that they have done for our family. The last thing I will share is that I am ever so grateful to be a mother. I love being a mom and know that this is the one of the best blessings I could ever have in my life time. It is a divine gift from Heavenly Father. They have already taught me so much probably more than I will ever teach them. I learn something everyday from being a mother!
